I was originally asked to work on Planet Earth only to do cave lighting for another cameraman but as the producers soon realised in cave filming, lighting is everything and I soon progressed to shooting and producing several sequences for the series. These included complex cable dolly shoots tracking down cave streamways and developing an innovative animation system for ‘flying’ round stalagmites. Planet Earth went on to win numerous awards worldwide and I was personally presented with an Award of Excellence by the Guild of Television Cameramen.
